Sometimes, all you need is a hug
Hug day - Beth and Kerry try to teach something to the couple.
If you are new here, start with the Prologue of The Valentine Love Story.
High Hug
“Maybe we should take a break.” Kerry looked up at Beth.
The teacher for the day was sitting on a chair dragged in after an hour of their lessons. The two students stood with their heads down, panting at yet another failure in Kerry’s backyard.
“How will they learn? Maybe we should teach them separately? Mia is still doing better. But Oliver needs more work, doesn’t he?” She shook her head.
“We are standing right here.” Oliver piped in.
“He couldn’t even open the door to the next state. We should focus on him.” Kerry took a seat on the arm rest.
“So, I was alright?” Oliver gave Mia a look of betrayal at her question.
“Hmm. But she still needs to tone it down. Her hand is red from the last try.” She pushed her glasses up her nose. The books she had read last night gave her a headache. And now, these two!
“How about we give them water.”
“I will allow it.” She tilted her head in all seriousness before Kerry went inside to follow her order.
Beth looked at the two students now, prompting them to smoothen their frowns and stand upright. They took their water, sighing at the relief.
“Let’s start again!” She clapped her hands.
Beth went in after an hour to lie down, followed by a full Kerry. He couldn’t eat any more after sampling all the trial cakes of Mia. The desserts got tastier, yet the door did not seem to open in right places.
“You two keep trying!”
“I will be keeping an eye on you.” Kerry warned them as he pointed to his window that looked over the backyard.
Oliver and Mia held each other’s hands as they put on big smiles, “Of course.” They collapsed in each other’s arms as soon as the wardens went inside.
They stood there, hugging each other for the first time, unknown to themselves, for five minutes before realizing they could get caught.
“Can we go inside and rest? I can bribe Kerry.” Mia’s suggestion came out muffled in his sweater.
“Let’s try one more time. If it doesn’t work, we will tell Beth it is not working.” Oliver whispered in her hair.
She nodded her head, not wanting to let go. Oliver took her hand and led her to the door, making her eyes widen, “What are you doing?”
“I wanted to try something! Where do you want to go right now?” They had not yet tried to be together while attempting their magic.
“Besides your couch?”
“Yes.” He held her hand tighter, used to the ring burning into his palm.
“I wouldn’t say no to some spicy Indian.”
“Delhi, it is.” He took a deep breath, going to a quiet lane in busy Chandni Chowk through his mind. He had been there a few times and loved the food there.
He turned the knob, hoping his idea would work. The noise from the busy market reached his ears before he even opened his eyes and a smile took over. He looked back at Mia to see her grinning.
They came back three hours later, stuffed to their tongues, discussing where to go next.
But their smiles dropped at the sight in their backyard.
