If you are new to this love series. Start here with the Prologue.
Important news - The remaining three parts will only be published on Substack. It means you will not get the mails in your inbox. I don’t want to flood it with three posts in a week.
The pending promise
Two slaps are enough to wake up a person. One on the left side, one on the right. It works better than throwing water at their face, and helps the person waking them up to practice their swing.
Beth realized this the night she was called by a fainting Oliver to come rescue them. Kids, she had rolled her eyes before she drove to their house.
Kerry was standing by her side with his hands crossed across his chest. His frown had turned into pressed lips at the sheer stupidity on his brother’s part. But he was more disappointed with Mia. She could have told him. He was great at keeping secrets. The Sheriff still didn’t know he was dating his daughter.
“You both are idiots.” Was the first thing Beth said to them as they woke up. She had Kerry open all the windows and doors of the house to let the cool air in. It was helping the couple. Yet, they were a bit groggy.
Mia’s hand went to her ring, it was burning into her skin.
“It’s because of him.” Beth pointed to Oliver. They both looked at her in confusion.
“Both of your magic is affecting each other,” She put up her hand to stop Mia from denying, “I know the ring, Mia. This just confirmed that your mother passed it to you.”
“She wasn’t supposed to.” Mia looked at the ground.
Beth pursed her lips together. She was not at the place to say anything when she had been helping Oliver since the start. Honestly, she didn’t care. She knew she had to help the couple.
“I know you are new. But you should have told each other about it.” Mia looked at Oliver now. There was always a thought in the back of her mind that something was amiss whenever she spent more than a few minutes with Oliver.
“The door has stopped working.” He mumbled in a low voice, keeping his head down from Beth.
“Because you have been projecting all your energies on her.” The couple looked up at the old lady with wide eyes. Oliver’s cheeks turned pink like Mia’s skin.
“She is a maker. The happier they are, the more powerful they get. You are a transcender. The more extreme your emotions, the more your magic escapes you.”
“Now, I need both of you to get away from each other for a while. I will teach you how to handle yourself from tomorrow. Come on, Mia.” Beth stood up, ruffled Kerry’s hair and walked to the door without looking back.
As soon as they were alone in the kitchen, apologies burst out. They talked over each other trying to explain why they hid their identities, what exactly they could do, how they have unknowingly affected each other.
Fifteen minutes later, Beth walked in again after continuously sighing with Kerry at the two idiots inside and what could be done with them.
“I will throw that pitcher on you this time.” Beth placed her hands on her hips.
They scrambled away from each other to stand up at her stern gaze. She left with a last glare to turn up her Car’s heater.
“I will never keep things from you, again.” He ran his finger above his ring, not caring about the burn.
She looked at his bloodshot eyes with darkness under them, “I promise I will tell you everything.”
Kerry’s over the top coughs broke them up this time.
“She is swinging her umbrella by the front door.”
The next three parts will be uploaded daily from next Wednesday. Stay tuned.
