Does a love story really end with separation if the souls are together?
Thoughts I had while watching the Bollywood romance movie Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, and a recap.
Hello to you all! So, this is something new and a bit personal for the 50th post of The Indian Story. While I have been focusing on only putting up fiction, I think we need regular check-ins too. So here it is.
I watched Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha yesterday. A love story that takes a wrong turn with one night. A complex story told in simple terms with great dialogue and Actors. It is a must watch. I watched it alone because I knew I would weep. After a long time, there was a pure romantic movie that I loved from Bollywood. And my first thought was
Does a love story really end with separation if the souls are together?
At one point in the story, you ask yourself how can two people who love each other so much handle the pain of being away. But, there is also the sense that they are not two, but one. The hero tells her there is no space between them for even a third person (in a much more filmy way!) and you swoon. And you wonder that if the two souls are connected to each other, then does it really matter that they are apart through time, and place. Of course, all this happens after you have cried and cursed the fates, and the writer!
Can someone really choose between love and career?
Just a conversation amongst the two about the future course of their life and the possibilities it holds made me wonder about the difficult choices that a couple faces. And whether one can be happy if they have to choose either love or career. Can you really be content with a partner and miserable in your job, or vice versa? Yet, The real life seems far more complicated than that.
Are we obsessed with happy endings?
Whenever you start a romance, there is an expectation it will end on a happy note with the couple riding into the sunset together. But it made me wonder, do all stories need to end similarly? Aren’t all stories unique in their own way? How can we define what is a happy ending when the circumstances differ.
Now to some real pain,
Why did I not go watch it in theatres?
As much as I love OTT, there are some movies that lend themselves to communal viewing. There is a certain euphoria in laughing, screaming and crying with hundreds of people that makes it a better experience. I went to watch Rockstar when it re-released recently in theatres and it was a treat. I have already lost out on classics of Shah Rukh Khan.
Reminded me of Veer-Zaara
This movie had that old romantic charm that solely focused on the relationship and nothing else. With years of physical separation between them, you can feel the pain of characters throughout their journey. And it instantly reminded me of the first movie that made me cry, Veer Zara, another Shah Rukh Khan masterpiece. If you want to watch something reminiscent of old Bollywood, than this is the perfect fix.
Now onto the recap, there is another addition to our Dead Sister’s Tales about a Goddess that lived amongst men. A serial featured in Top in Fiction, an Honorable mention in Lunar awards Season 8, starting with
Along with this, I have another news to share with you.
I have decided that all the fiction on The Indian Story would be free till the year end. I have to figure out what avenue would be best since Stripe does not work for Indian creators.
Till then, enjoy
