If you are new here, start with the Prologue of The Valentine Love Story.
Kind of a Kiss
“Kerry, No!”
“Beth!”
The couple was not ready to find a picnic waiting for them. At midnight. In their backyard. With an eleven-year-old having wine.
“Oh, Relax! It is apple juice.” Beth waived Oliver’s worries away. Kerry raised his wine glass in salute and took a sip, sighing at the cold drink making his way down his throat, “It tastes like heaven.”
“Just wait till you can taste the real thing!” Beth winked at him before motioning the couple to take a seat.
“You have school tomorrow.” Mia ruffled his hair, making him purr like a kitten. Oliver stood with her drawn chair till she settled in.
“Technically, today. But that is not important right now, Mia.” He turned to his brother, “How did you open the door? Did you get lost again? How could she walk in with you? Can anyone use it now?” The last one was for his personal curiosity. He could only imagine the delight on his love’s face if he could take her to Italy for that gelato. He would pay this time, of course.
“I stopped fighting.” He smiled at Mia, taking her hand in his.
“I can see that.” Beth lifted Mia’s other hand in hers, closely examining the finger that seemed to glow lightly to her eyes, “Hmm. Time for me to go.” She stood up, quickly walking out with no words.
The three people stared at her retreating figure with furrowed eyebrows before they shook their heads. Kerry left after finishing his drink. Late nights did not agree much with his beauty routine.
“I should leave too.” Mia turned to Oliver in her seat.
“Do you have to? I mean, it’s late and we have an empty room you can sleep in.” He dragged his chair closer to hers.
“Sounds good. But I don’t have anything here.” She leaned forward in her seat.
“We should do something about that too.”
“Later.” Mia was the first to close the gap between their lips. But the kiss was broken by Oliver till they couldn’t breathe.
Kerry sweared to Beth in the morning that he was almost blinded by the light that ran rampant through their backyard, asking her if she knew something about it.
Oliver had rolled his eyes from the counter while Mia blushed and tried to usher him out the door.
Beth gave Oliver a knowing look as he came out to the door. He bent down to place a peck on her lips, making Beth laugh out loud at Kerry’s dramatic gasp.
Oliver bent down to place a kiss on his forehead too, making him run out the door. Mia followed him, her giggles still ringing in the air.
“Wear something nice tomorrow, I have a surprise for you.” Beth took her coffee and breakfast to go.
